Cult Rescue - 1994 **

Infuriating movie about a wife and mother who falls prey to a dangerous individual who leads a cult. Nora begins having agonising back and head pain and goes to see a 'new age' doctor who she believes will cure her. What she doesn't realise is that his deep meditation techniques are actually infiltrating her deepest subconscious and changing her way of thinking towards her family and her life.
Its very frustrating seeing someone being brainwashed with absolutely no control.

Lies of the Heart - 1994 ***

Follows the true story of Laurie Kellogg, a young and naive teen who falls in love with an abusive and controlling man. As the years go by, the abuse continues and increases until Laurie cannot take it anymore.
An interesting and heartbreaking case about a severely traumatised woman, who has become so reliant on a man that she cannot leave him, even when he physically abuses her.

Fatal Vows - 1994 ** 1/2

'Fatal Vows' is a really awful film. Not in it's acting but because of the sheer audacity of a man who thinks he can abuse and betray his devoted wife and that she will stand by his side throughout everything (even when he turns out to be a serial killer). It's based on a true story as well, so that makes it all the more heart-breaking to watch, especially when the wife's son is hurt.
There are some hideous people in the world, and it's even more of a shock when you think that you know everything about a person and find that they have a deranged double life.

The Babysitter's Seduction - 1994 ***

This was rather a good movie, and Keri Russell was at her most beautiful and bubbly. She stars as an 18 year old babysitter who becomes attracted and infatuated by her boss after his wife is mysteriously murdered. It's quite a gripping story, but quite obvious who the culprit is almost immediately.

A Friend to Die For (Death of a Cheerleader) 1994 ****

I remember watching this movie a few years ago and it really got to me. Since then I've read in detail the background of the real life case and felt I wanted to watch it again to see if it was still as powerful. It was.
Tori Spelling plays the unpleasant but utterly popular high school cheerleader who becomes the object of newcomer Kellie Martin's affection, leading to tragic consequences.
It's quite a relatable film in some way, especially the overwhelming desire to 'fit in' at school that makes us do crazy things. Obviously the events in this film are rare, but the pressure nowadays to not be perfect or look a certain way can have a very negative effect on some people.

Leon: The Professional - 1994 *****

Oh my goodness I loved this film. One I never thought I would be able to get round to seeing. I also thought it would be incredibly boring but by golly was it anything but.
After her family are slaughtered by a drug baron and his cronies, Mathilda takes shelter in the only other place she knows, that of a quiet man who lives in the apartment opposite her own. What she doesn't know is that he happens to be a professional hitman named Leon who has his own ideas about his privacy and taking on the responsibility of a 12 year old girl.
The whole thing is superbly acted, with highlighted performances from Gary Oldman (as the sadistically manic drug lord) and Natalie Portman as Mathilda.
Wonderful. 5 star. Watch it now.
