(HORROR) Watch Me 2006 *

A hideously awful film about a cinema student whose friends are murdered one by one after watching a video tape. That's original isn't it. Oh dear.

Cattle Call - 2006 *

Except for the very funny 'Vacation' movies, National Lampoon is a bit of a damp squib. It's just a vague name that people associate with comedy when in actual fact the company send to churn out the most awful junk imaginable.
'Cattle Call' is no exception. It's quite literally horrendous with such an embarrassing story that it will make you weep. The idea of 'auditioning' women to be your girlfriend without them knowing just really annoyed me! It seemed utterly sexist and chauvinistic. It wasn't funny either.

Gettin' It - 2006 ***

Teen comedy about a shy and unpopular virgin who, after a misunderstanding about his "size" becomes popular beyond his wildest dreams with all the women in his town. It's silly and immature but quite amusing.

Vegas, Baby - 2006 ***

Ok, I was surprised by this. It was quite funny for a bachelor party film. A group of friends head to Las Vegas to throw their friend a bachelor party and end up being chased by gangsters in search of stolen money. Not bad at all really.

(HORROR) When a Killer Calls - 2006 **

You can never expect much from The Asylum film company, after all, they live to make bad films.
This wasn't awful, but when you compare it to 'When a Stranger Calls' (which it is OBVIOUSLY based on) then it just seems a bit of a joke.
A young teen is left to take care of a child as a babysitter while the parents go out for the evening. At first she is pleased to be alone, but soon begins to receive threatening and abusive calls from an unknown number.
I think you can guess the rest so I won't 'spoil' it for you. Not very well acted though.

(HORROR) AB Negative - 2006 *

A hideously bad movie. Badly made, ridiculous plot and horrible camera work that seemed to make everything worse. The idea of harvesting human organs is quite a delicate subject but was (excuse the pun) mercilessly butchered here. I might recommend this movie to my worst enemy to waste their time, but no one else.

I am the Other Woman - 2006 **

A very peculiar movie. You can never tell what is real or what is imaginary. I'm not a huge fan of movies like this so it was a bit hard to watch. I can't really give a synopsis because I haven't got much of a clue what was going on. It was basically about a man having an affair with a strange woman who isn't quite what she seems.

(HORROR) Crazy Eights - 2006 **

Crazy me for watching this more like? Usually horrors that centre around old hospitals, sanitariums, mental institutions etc are pretty creepy. These kinds of films are usually shot in genuine locations and so that makes them even weirder.
This was (by the looks of things) shot on location and still managed to be a garbled mess. I'm not even sure what the story was because my mind started wandering pretty soon after it had started. I can honestly say though, that this was one of the films I had been looking forward to watching, and as usual I had been disappointed.

(HORROR) Broken - 2006 *

'Broken' is certainly not a film to watch if you are pregnant or trying to be. It's very gruesome and can be quite upsetting in some scenes. Yet again though (like the above movie) the acting is really bad and it completely spoils the production. It was very slow as well and took about an hour to really get going. Even then nothing much happened out of the ordinary. Not worth your time.

(HORROR) Are You Scared? - 2006 *

'Wow, just wow.' Yes, but not in a positive or even remotely scary way. This film is awful. Pure and simple. It's the worst rip-off of the 'Saw' franchise that I have ever seen. The acting is poor, the deaths, whilst vaguely amusing aren't in the least bit terrifying. Mostly because all you can see if fake blood that looks like tomato soup and fake prosthetic skin that keeps getting ripped off at every opportunity for a 'scare.' You can tell by the cover that the film is going to be pants, but if you want anymore convincing watch it. Then smack yourself hard for wasting your time.

Little Man - 2006 ****

I'm never disappointed by anything involving the Wayan brothers, and this was hilarious. I have no idea how they filmed it but it was worth whatever graphics they used because the results were scene after scene of very funny anecdotes, pained looks, and comic timing. Really good watch, a bit rude in some parts but let's face it, what funny films these days aren't, and I really enjoyed it.

Breaking and Entering - 2006 ****

In comparison to the other films I've seen recently this was a stark contrast. A brilliant journey into the lives of a group of people lead by Jude Law whose lives are turned upside down after a number of break-ins at Law's business. We are shown both sides of the situation - how it affects Law's family and the teenagers responsible for the burglaries.
I was surprised actually at how good Jude Law was in this, proof that he can actually act instead of just standing there trying to look 'pretty.'
Anthony Minghella on top form.

(HORROR) I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer - 2006 ***

I was surprised actually how good this was considering the last offering was about 8 years ago. It deals with pretty much the same story as the other 2 did. A group of adults being pursued by a man in a cape with a hook and being killed off one at a time in an array of interesting deaths. The ending is pretty silly, and when you discover the identity of the being it's quite amusing and actually lowers the tone of the film even more. But it wasn't a bad movie when you consider how hideous the 3rd film in a trilogy usually is.

Stuart: A Life Backwards - 2006 ****

The combination of Cumberbatch and Hardy in one gritty and real film is enough to guarantee it's popularity as far as I am concerned. Added to which, parts of it were filmed very close to where I work which made it even more likeable.
Based on a true account, Cumberbatch plays Alexander, a bookish, intelligent man who meets Stuart, an aggressive drunk and thoroughly mixed up human being at a protest for homeless people.
Despite his initial reactions, Alexander soon forms a close bond with Stuart, enough for him to suggest that he writes a book about Stuart's troubled life so that people can understand why he ended up on 'the wrong side of the tracks'. Stuart is in agreement, but says the best way for his story to be told is backwards like a murder mystery, so that people can see who 'murdered the innocent child that he was'.
The acting from both these people, especially Tom Hardy is superb. It is fluid, frightening, calm, uncomfortable and completely natural and just seems like these two are meant for their parts. The story is actually very moving and quite painful in places. It will certainly leave you with a lump in your throat.

Who Slept with her? - 2006 ****

This Japanese film was actually very quirky and very funny, and I stumbled upon it by mistake.

A new member of staff at a strict boys school causes a stir as each boy fantasises over her and three particular students are convinced that they can 'have her' without their manical headteacher finding out. Things as expected, don't go to plan. It does sound rude and maybe if it was an American film it would be a bitn crude but actually as it's Asian it's not to be taken too seriously and I raised a smile quite a few times.

The three male students are hilarious, the headteacher is completely loopy, and the female member of staff is a complete tease.

Watch with some wine and chocolate and have a laugh at a pointlessly funny film.
