Elizabeth:The Golden Age - 2004

Woman.Warrior.Queen.
Disregarding the fabrication of the real story of Elizabeth and Walter Raleigh, this film is a real masterpiece. In short it delivers a steady and complex plot with some memorable characters and the acting is astounding, not just from Blanchett but from Owen as well. This movie is like a feminist approach to the world which would not have been out of place at the turn of the century when the suffragetes were around, for Elizabeth never married or had a child - as she was too strong and independant a women to rely on any man. This film boasts epic proportions, and it doesn't disappoint. Beautifully photographed and powerfully acted, this movie is not to be missed.
Rating 3.5/5
