This is what real film noir is all about. Darkness, murder, romance and deceit. Dick Powell plays a gambler who loves life and women. He is also trying to solve a crime that the cops think he is guilty of. What's a guy to do? Well smoking a cigarette and slapping some men about is an idea, as well as romancing a couple of beautiful women. You've got to love forties film noir, it really knows its stuff, and there are certain things that you get used to looking out for, just like the wise-crackng cop, the tough guy and the beautiful dame.
