The Ghost and Mrs Muir - 1947
Is Lucy Muir's love a ghost or a man of flesh and blood?
Having never seen this movie but knowing it was supposed to be good I took the time recently to watch it and boy was I glad I did. What a beautifully acted and emotional rollarcoaster of a love story. Gene Tierney is luscious as Mrs Muir who moves to a haunted cottage by the sea with her daughter and maid and falls under the spell of the ghost Captain Gregg. Rex Harrison is spell-binding as the spirit who forms a unique relationship with Mrs Muir as they agree to both co-exist (or not, in his case) peacefully in the house together. George Sanders is wickedly delightful who falls in love with Mrs Muir, much to the disgust of the Captain. I defy anyone not to cry at this movie from the middle right to the final tear-jerking scene which is still in my mind days after the film has come to an end. Harrison and Tierney are perfect together, a timeless combination.
