What imprisons desires of the heart?
This beautifully scripted and acted film is a fascinating insight into a small town in America in the 1950s' where Julianne Moore, the loving wife of Dennis Quaid, is rocked by a revelation about her husband which will turn her life upside down. At the same time her growing friendship with a coloured man (played perfectly by Dennis Haysbert) is another taboo which threatens to ruin her proper image in the town. I really enjoyed this film, partly because of the acting and partly because of the social taboos which are faced during a difficult and naive decade where colour divided people. Moore's acting was worthy of an Oscar although I admired Haysbert's performance the most. A beautiful and emotionally challenging movie.
