Tropic Thunder - 2008

Those guys were trained soldiers! Yeah, but we're trained actors!

Tropic Thunder as a film is a good concept. A group of actors starring in a film set in the jungle actually end up having to survive in the jungle after they are stranded. I also admired the fact that the film was actually taking the mickey out of itself and other war films of its time. I do feel however that while there are some very funny moments (like a bald Tom Cruise dancing to Flo Rida)a lot of the time the film seems to concentrate on more serious aspects of a war film. The characters are very amusing though, especially Robert Downey Jnr who undergoes reconstructive pigment surgery to play his part in the movie (in the movie!)I did appreciate the realistic look we get at the actors who come across (no doubt in reality also) as self absorbed and arrogant creatures. All together though I do feel that this film was a bit of a hit and miss, some funny parts, some not.
